A couple of days ago I saw a story on the news which broke me. A woman in Lowestoft fell to her death from a carpark and a couple of weeks later the bodies of her three children; an 11 month old baby, a two year old, and a three year old were found dead in her flat. They died because she had died, and because nobody knew they were there. They starved.
How could nobody know? Did she have no family? No friends? Surely when her body was found somebody professional must have been aware there were children left behind?
The image keeps appearing in my head and will haunt me for life. Those three children frightened, alone and hungry. Desperate. It absolutely cuts me up.
Should the worst happen to me I know that Miss Rose will be loved. She is surrounded day in day out by people who love her. If her father and I die there is no chance she will be left alone.
Having Rose made me very aware of my own mortality and one of the first things we did after she was born was talk about guardians. Should we die our friends Aimee-Rose and Luke will step in and raise her. They already love her and she them so we are confident and secure that she would be loved as much as any of their own children. She will be safe. She will never be forgotten.
SOMEONE must have known her children were there. Surely someone. But it appears they must have had nobody but their mother and each other. This tragic story should serve as a reminder to us all. Life is easily snuffed out in a heartbeat and for our children left behind this will always be devastating but we can lessen that pain by doing what we can to make sure they are cared for. To be forgotten is a fate too heartbreaking to contemplate. Those poor babies.
