Miss Rose is a flirt. She is also something of a boy-hunter. I can’t imagine where she gets it from.
At the swimming pool she has a favourite lifeguard, Zak, who is adorable and so sweet with her. We have a look through the window into the pool to see if he’s on duty, and if he is she waves and smiles, and he waves and smiles back. When we get changed and go into the pool she offers up more waves and smiles. When she’s swimming around on her foam woggle she will often get so distracted with smiling and waving at him that she falls off.
Sometimes there are boys in the pool. It doesn’t matter what age, she will hunt them. They may be toddlers in arm bands or thirty year olds in speedos. She will swim like a shark at speed towards them… something she claims she cannot do when no boys are present.
She does this (minus the swimming bit obviously…) in supermarkets, playgrounds, and just in the street. She has a radar for boys. She also has a radar for balloons but that’s a different story.
I think it’s quite lovely. It’s innocent and sweet, and she just happens to really like boys. Perhaps it is partly because boys have the toys she wants? Miss Rose likes blocks, and cars, and has a toy hammer that makes noises when she bashes it into things (which she does with ecstatic gusto). She likes to smash, crash, climb and bang.
For now it’s sweet. For now it’s innocent.
I remember what I was like as a teenager and may I just say “HEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLP”
How my mother ever survived me I do not know. And Miss Rose is smarter, more beautiful, and more determined than I ever was.
I think I’m in for a hell of a ride. She is going to be a force to be reckoned with. She is going to make my life a stressful, chaotic, war zone of mayhem and hormones. And boys be warned; this girl is going to break hearts.
And I couldn’t be prouder.
