I have been blog silent for a week and a half as Miss Rose and I officially moved in to our new home, and today we got the internet. Hurray!
Our house is a double fronted terrace, eight minutes walk from the centre of my town. It is close to the supermarket, close to some take aways, close to pubs, and close to a Bargain Booze. It has two bedrooms and a lovely garden. It is home.
I was nervous as to how Miss Rose would settle in as she hasn’t spent much time away from her home before. But she did, and she settled quickly. Indeed, our first night here, she slept better than she has in quite a long time, and the pattern is continuing. She is also eating better, and laughing more.
Our little home is ours, just ours. There are no memories of a former life, no haunting memories that linger like spectres over our day to day lives. Miss Rose and I are forming entirely new memories, entirely new routines. The things in this house are ours, nobody else’s. It is laid out and decorated just for us and just for our needs. We have the luxury of being completely and utterly selfish.
I was terrified. I have lived away from my parents before, but always with a man. I have never been the sole, responsible adult. Even after my husband left, we were right next door to my mother and I relied on that support. The idea of doing this for the first time as just me was extremely scary. Massively. Overwhelmingly so. But my gosh I am so glad I did it!
We have a home. We are both happier, and both more relaxed, and we love it. We are us. Miss Rose and Mummy in our own little palace.
