Every mother’s heart fills with joy the first time they hear their darling child say “I love you”. It’s a beautiful moment. They’ve heard it from you repeatedly since they were in the womb, and they are words filled with affection and warmth. Words that carry meaning and devotion.

Miss Rose has started to say I love you.

To cheese.

“I love you cheese”

I am being unfair. She has also said to a person.

“I love you Dan”

Dan is one of the guys who works at my gym. She adores Dan. Dan is a twenty one year old personal trainer. He’s very sweet and has informed me that he doesn’t like children, has no interest in children… but Rose is different. Rose he likes.

She shrieks with delight when she sees him and rushes over shouting “DAN DAN DAN DAN!” whilst he looks smug and I roll my eyes in despair. “I love you Dan!”

Dammit.

I do remind her that she lived in me. That my body and my body alone nourished her for the first six months of her life. That I love her more than any person or any thing that ever existed in the world ever.

I love you cheese. I love you Dan.

Ah well. At least I know where I am in her list of priorities.

  1. Lol!!!! Oops! Although I won’t be surprised if Caiden tells cheese he loves it before he tells me! He’s a cheese monster!

  2. Awww, that’s cute. My toddler recently stopped calling me mommy and started saying just “meh” and then she giggles when I try to correct her. Still waiting for the “I love you’s” – wouldn’t surprise me if they will be directed at cheese here too though… 🙂
