This year, 2014, has shaken my world.
I started the year married to a man I loved, living in a large countryside house with sheep in the garden and a car in the drive way. I was a size 14, had short hair, and never went out at night. My baby girl had just turned one, was a total daddy’s girl, and took up all my focus.
I end it the opposite. Divorcing the man I loved, living in a small mid town terrace and no car. A size 8, with long hair, and a social life. My baby girl is two, she is a confident, stroppy, demanding, beautiful little lady who walks, talks, sings and dances. She still takes my focus, but not all. I have other things in my life. I have my writing, my new boyfriend, my friends, and my beautiful niece baby Evie.
What’s in a year? A lot.
Miss Rose has developed from a baby to a little girl in this time. She is a little girl who has passions for Spiderman and rabbits. Loves Tangled, Monsters Inc and The Smurfs. A little girl who is charming and funny, confidently talking to adults and children alike, and often, when asked what she wants to do that that day, asks to “dance with boys”.
Miss Rose’s world has been turned upside down this year. She has seen her father come and go from her life, lost the regular contact with extended family, and seen her mother in an intense emotional break down. She has been through panic attacks and night terrors. But, at the end of it, she has come out of it resilient. She is a strong little lady, and I am in awe of how well she handles the changes that life has thrown at her. I am in awe of who she is, and who she is developing into being.
What’s in a year?
We can find out in 2015, because who knows? If you had told me on New Years Eve 2013 that these would be my circumstances on New Years Eve 2014 I wouldn’t have believed you. Divorced? Single mum? Benefits? Living alone? New boyfriend? What??? No.
But yes. The reality has changed so dramatically in this year that I can only grit my teeth and brace myself for what next year brings because I sure as hell can’t begin to predict it.
Happy New Year to you all, and good luck… we’re in for one hell of a ride.
